The project SPAS is a necessary complement to the EU project KAPA GS (http://www.kapags.at/). SPAS deals with one of the sub-problems which have been identified i.e. the PM10 burden caused by traffic and is searching for intelligent solutions to this problem.
The project SPAS demonstrates that an appreciable reduction of PM10/PM2.5/PM1.0 pollution can be achieved at local levels along so-called hot spots by combining conventional noise-protection elements with newly developed filter elements.
The technology employed is an innovative one, presenting an effective measure to decrease emission caused by the resuspension of road dust. The elements developed and tested in real time in SPAS are of a pilot nature and will be used in Klagenfurt on a permanent basis.
